The Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS) is delighted to invite you to a launch of Patrick Keddie’s new book ‘The Passion: Football and the Story of Modern Turkey’ on 3rd April 2018.
This event will take place between 6:30-8pm on 3 April 2018 in Diskus Room of Unite House (Unite the Union, Unite House, 128 Theobald’s Road, Holborn, London, WC1X 8TN).
In this book launch, journalist Patrick Keddie will share his observations of modern Turkey through Turkish football. Drawing a picture of Turkey’s social fabric with clashes over ethnic and sexual identities as well as telling the story of the biggest match-fixing scandal in European football in his book, he will discuss how football in Turkey has been a site of power, anger and resistance.
Patrick Keddie is an author, journalist and essayist based in Istanbul. A reporter for Al Jazeera, his writing has also appeared in VICE, the Guardian, the Huffington Post, the Irish Times, the LA Review of Books, Middle East Eye and the Sunday Herald among others.
We look forward to welcoming you to this event.
